An afternoon of hunting ended in tragedy Sunday night when the body of a hunter was found in his tree stand.
Marc W. Helton, 34, of Lexington died when his hunting rifle accidentally discharged, striking him in the neck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Helton was hunting with a friend in the Lovers Leap area, a remote area in northern Anderson County located off Lanes Mill Road.
After climbing 20 feet into his tree stand, Helton was apparently using a rope to hoist his .30-30 rifle into the stand when it discharged.
