What started as an Internet romance left one Anderson County woman $4,000 in debt.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, said she began chatting with a man on a romance site for divorcees about five weeks ago. The two started building a relationship, talking online and on the phone.
"I really believed this guy really cared," the woman said, adding that the man had even sent her flowers and planned to visit her Friday, July 4.
One day, the man asked her to wire $50 to help his son who had gotten sick while on a digging expedition in Nigeria.
