Even though Anderson was heavily favored over Owen County last Tuesday, Lady Bearcat coach Jason Earnest reminded his team there was more to his pregame speech than the usual, “We have to take one game at a time” usually reserved for such occasions.
There really was something riding on the outcome. “We still needed to play for district seeding,” Earnest said. “It got out of hand fast.”
Anderson, obviously motivated, grabbed a 7-0 halftime lead even though Earnest put some resrictions on his team after it gained a 4-0 advantage.
“We had extreme restrictions on how we were allowed to score after the fourth goal,” Earnest said. “It could only be on a cross. In the second half, it had to be out of the air from a cross.”
Hayley Johnson, Hannah Pritchert, Taylor Clark, Madison Carter, Kara Yeaste and Elizabeth Mason all scored, then Caroline McDowell ended the first half with her first varsity goal into the upper right corner of the net.
Clark and Courtney Fallis both scored in the second half for Anderson.
Earnest said that Yeaste was credited with three assists while Carter, Katie Gustafson and Morgan Abner had one.
“We were able to control possession the entire time, control the tempo of the game and work on moving the ball around,” Earnest said. “The main thing, we avoided injuries and moved to 3-0 in district play.
