Defeat Woodford for first time since 2001

By John Herndon

Anderson County built a 2-0 lead, then hung on to defeat Woodford County, 2-1, in the District 25 championship game Saturday afternoon. The tournament was held at Sower Soccer Complex in Frankfort.

"This is amazing," said Anderson junior Madison Carter.

Laura Drury gave the Lady Bearcats a 1-0 lead with 9:54 to go in the first half, then Taylor Clark added a goal with an assist from Kara Yeaste with 24 minutes to play.

Woodford finally got on the board when Annespicer Adams found the net from the left side. Despite Woodford's relentless attack over the last 10 minutes, the Lady Bearcats held on, getting big defensive plays from Hannah Drury, and Emily Mager. Goalie Rebecca Radcliffe also had some key saves.

"It just feels awesome," Drury said.

Anderson will play Henry Clay in the Region 13 tournament, Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Tates Creek High School in Lexington.

Full details will be availlable in this week's AndersonNews, available across the county on Wednesday.
