Lady Bearcats clinch district's top seed with win over Shelby

The top seed in the girls' 30th District basketball tournament belongs to Anderson County this year. The Lady Bearcats clinched the top spot with a 62-53 win over visiting Shelby County Friday night.

Anderson built a lead that grew to as many as 17 points early in the third quarter, then held off a furious Shelby rally to improve to 12-3 on the year. Shelby fell to 8-12.

Tiffany Davenport led Anderson with 17 points, while Lindsay Fultz scored 16. Seventh-grader Eriel McKee came off the bench for 13 big points.

Taylor Shaw buried six 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Shelby.

Lady Cats escape at Clark

The Lady Bearcats earned a hard-fought 61-58 win at Clark County in overtime Saturday afternoon. Anderson trailed by four points early in the extra period before rallying for the win.

Lindsay Fultz and Makenzie Stoner led Anderson with 16 points each. The Lady Bearcats improved to 13-3 on the year.

Anderson will now play at Eminence on Tuesday, Feb. 10 in a game that was originally scheduled for Jan. 31.
