Legion, Auxiliary attend convention

The American Legion and Auxiliary convention was held in Louisville on June 28-30. Unit 34 received many certificates of appreciation for the groups’ legislative program, national security, past president’s parley program, Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, cavalcade of memories, americanism, poppy program, community service, chaplain and history.
The Membership Achievement and Beyond award for 110 percent was an eagle and certificate.
Public Relations Chairman Shirley Thornberry received a certificate and trophy for her press book, winning first place in the state. Thornberry was also named Recruiter of the Year and received the Kentucky Achievement Award certificate and a gift from Department Membership Chairman Pam Rice.
Junior members received certificates for community service, participation at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, poppy, public relations, cavalcade of memories and americanism.
Junior member Anna Boyles received a trophy and certificate for Department Junior Volunteer Member of the Year.
There were National Guard representatives at convention that presented Unit 34 with a trophy for helping with the military child event. Pam Rice was also made an honorary member of the National Guard and received a framed certificate.
Members attending were Betty Butler, Pam Rice, Chrisie Halvorson, Nettie Halvorson and Shirley Thornberry. Junior members attending were Janna Halvorson, Hannah Drury and Anna Boyles.
