County clerk says thanks for voter patience
To the editor:
I would like to thank voters for their patience on May 18.
Several changes have taken place since the 2008 General Election. The Anderson County Board of Elections was forced to move several voting locations due to disability guidelines and other regulations.
We also replaced the old outdated machines with new paper ballot scanners which will reduce the time and long lines at the polls.
We enhanced election night at the courthouse with a visual display of the results, while keeping the history of reading the totals in the hallway.
Even with these changes, we had very few problems.
Our poll workers put in a long, hard day’s work, and we appreciate them greatly. They are a very dedicated group of citizens and we realize that Election Day could not happen if it were not for them.
We had enough workers for the primary election, but we will be looking for some additional workers for the November General Election.
If you are interested, please call my office at 839-3041.
I would also like to thank the principals at Saffell Street, Emma B. Ward, Anderson Middle School, Anderson County High School, the members of Stringtown Ruritan Club and Beaver Creek Lodge, Bart Powell and the EMS Staff and Fire Chief Mike Barnes for allowing us to use their facilities for the precinct voting locations.
At last, I need to thank county employees John Eckman, Ronnie Hume and staff, the Anderson County Board of Elections and my staff.
We truly have a great group of citizens and personnel that make Election Day day go smoothly.
