Little Leaguers salvage split in district games

The Anderson County Little League All-Stars scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Powell County 5-3 in district tournament play Sunday at Harrodsburg's Anderson-Dean Park.

With runners on second and third, Hunter Campbell grounded out but drove in Ross Cox with the winning run. Lucas Durr followed with a single that scored Cade Cotton for an insurance run.

Darius Harvey pitched all seven innings, scattering eight hits but giving up one earned run for the win. Harvey struck out eight.

Cotton and Durr led the Anderson attack with three hits each while Alex Payton had two hits and 2 RBI.

Saturday, Western American, formerly known as Lexington Gardenside, scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to break open a close game and post a 9-3 win over Anderson County.

Western American pitching limited Anderson to three hits.

The local team was to play Nicholas County in pool play action Monday after press deadlines and hoped to advance to tournament elimination play, which was set to begin Tuesday.
