The death of a Lawrenceburg man who jumped Wednesday afternoon from the Tyrone Bridge was confirmed as a suicide, the Anderson County Coroner’s office confirmed Monday afternoon.

Jeffrey L. Wainscott, 43, of 207 Suzanne St., was pronounced dead shortly after rescuers with the Anderson County Fire Department and EMS recovered his body from the Kentucky River.

An autopsy performed the followed day revealed that Wainscott died from blunt force trauma that resulted from his nearly 300-foot fall from the bridge.

A suicide note was left in his vehicle, which was parked on the Lawrenceburg side of the bridge that connects Anderson and Woodford counties.

According to police at the scene, a witness crossing the bridge spotted Wainscott on the bridge on foot. When the witness turned around to see if he was OK, he had already jumped.

Another witness reported seeing Wainscott in the water.

The incident triggered a massive response from city, county and state law enforcement. County firefighters launched a rescue boat at the Tyrone boat ramp, and recovered Wainscott’s body near the bridge.

He was taken to the Kentucky Utilities ramp where he was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner David Walden.

Wainscott is survived by his wife, Barbara, and a daughter, Jennifer, of Lexington.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg.
