Sparrow, Curtsinger pin five in rout over Woodford, Boyle, Montgomery

Four teams showed up Saturday morning at Anderson County High School to wrestle the MatCats, and four teams went home that afternoon licking their wounds.

The MatCats racked up 36 pins on route to knocking off Montgomery County (62-18), Woodford County (64-6), Boyle County’s A (69-6) and B (53-30) teams and Bourbon County (46-33).

Shea Sparrow (125 pounds) and Blake Curtsinger (130) were dominant, each scoring five pins in five matches on the day.

T.W. Stockton (135) also notched five wins, including four pins, and Zach Perry won five matches on two pins.

For the meet, the MatCats won 52 matches and lost only 13.

Bourbon County Duals

The MatCats traveled to Bourbon County on Dec. 9 to square off with Bourbon and Newport.

The Bearcats romped in both matches, posting a 54-13 win over Newport and knocking off Bourbon County 42-33.

Austin Dillow (119 pounds), Blake Curtsinger (130) T.W. Stockton (135) and Johnny Powell (171) all posted 2-0 records during the meet.

The MatCats won 18 matches and lost eight on route to scoring eight pins.

Wayne County Duals

The MatCats knocked off Ryle B and Danville on Dec. 4, but fell to Ryle A, Whitley County and Wayne County in the Wayne County Duals.

Austin Dillow and Shea Sparrow each notched five wins on the day, and Dylan Hughes and Zach Perry had four each.

Shoulder injuries midway through the meet to Hunter Lilly and Blake Curtsinger affected their performances in later matches, according to correspondent Jeff Lilly.

The MatCats notched 35 wins against 30 losses in the meet.
