Anderson County Middle School students involved in band and chorus participated recently in the District Festival.
Seventh- and eighth-grade students performed at the Oldham County Center for the Arts and presented two selections for adjudication.
The chorus, accompanied by eighth-grade humanities teacher Ginger Warren, sang “Cantate Hodie” and “The River Sleeps Beneath the Sky,” both by Mary Lynn Lightfoot. Students received proficient-plus ratings from all three judges, which means they were very close to receiving a distinguished rating.
The band played “In the Wake of Spring” by James
Swearingen, and “Antagonist” by Larry Clark. Students received two distinguished minus ratings, a proficient –plus-plus rating on stage and an apprentice rating in sight reading, which combined equaled a proficient rating.
Mallory Draughn, the middle school’s band and choir director, and Patrick Brady, the high school’s band director, said they are very proud of their students’ accomplishments this year, and hope for even better scores next year.
