‘Golden Alert’ issued for Saffell Street resident

By The Staff

A Saffell Street man who went missing late Monday night was found several hours after a Golden Alert was issued on his behalf.

Truman Johnson Barnett, 80, was reportedly uninjured after being involved in a traffic accident in Jefferson County, according to a news release issued by the Anderson County Division of Emergency Management and the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

Barnett, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia, had not been seen since around 2 p.m. Monday at his residence, according to the news release.

Barnett has a history of becoming disoriented while traveling and could become agitated if confronted while lost, according to the news release.

He was believed to be on route to a medical appointment in Louisville.

Golden Alerts work for missing adults in much the same way as Amber Alerts work for missing children.

The alerts went into effect two years ago and eliminated the need for families to wait 72 hours before police could begin looking for missing family members who suffer from Alzheimer’s or other mental disabilities.
