OUTDOORS: Anderson 4-H shooting sports team on target for state title

Archers win three individual championships

The Anderson County 4-H shooting sports team produced three individual state champions and four team champions in the state meet held recently. Eighteen local youth participated in the event, competing for the championships in two separate disciplines: archery and shotgun.

Those earning state championships were Adam Steele in the 9-11 year old Bare Bow Division; Justin Mehs in the 15-18 year old Bare Bow Division; and Ethan Steel in the 15-18 year old Target Bow Division.

Steele is repeating as state champion in the same division.

Others placing individually were Mehs, who placed second in the 15-18 year old Bare Bow Division and Cameron Peyton, third in the same division.

The 12-14 Bare Bow team consisting of Taylor Hughes, Bradley Wilson, Ben Richie and Michala Frederick won the state championship in its division.

The 15-18 Bare Bow team also won its division. Team members are Mehs, Peyton, Steele and Nikki Nivison.

The 15-18 Old Bow Hunter team, made up of Mehs, Steele, Peyton and Cody Able, took the championship in its division.

The 15-18 Old Target Bow team also won a title. Team members are Steele, Mehs, Able and Peyton.

In addition, the 12-14 Old Bow Hunter team (Frederick, Jacob Able, Ben Richie and Wilson) took third place while the 12-14 Old Target Bow team (Frederick, Jacob Able, Richie and Zach Toles) also placed third.
