Pierian Woman’s Club awards student art show prizes, scholarships

The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club awarded cash prizes at its May 16 meeting to high school student winners in the art contest and exhibition held May 11 in the Anderson County High School auditorium lobby.
First, second and third place prizes were awarded for painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and mixed media.
Winners were Glenna Curry, Sydney Jessee, Elizabeth Jones, Christina Watson, Katie Davis, Mary Osborn, Sarah Cubert, Kelsey Mullins, Hallie Morgan, Megan Adkins and Forrest Coffey.
Art teachers Jenny Kittinger and Chris Wilder were thanked for their time and effort in coordinating the show.
$500 scholarships were awarded to Lexandra Overby, Sidney Rogers and Taylor Gilkison, seniors graduating from ACHS.
Members voted to contribute $200 to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Youth Group for serving at the club’s Hats Off! Luncheon and Style Show in April.
New officers for the 2013-2014 year were installed by Jeanne Bichel, Governor of GFWC-KY 6th District. They are Fern Edgett, President; Patti Hyman, 1st Vice-President; Jackie Wendlandt, 2nd Vice-President; Maxye Henry, Secretary; and Maria Cataldi, Treasurer.
Discussion of the reading selection, “Seabiscuit,” was led by Ann Richard.
Meetings are suspended until Sept. 19. A summer outing is planned for June 12, when members and friends will attend a performance of “You’re Only Young Twice” at Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville, Ind.
