Organization awards $3,175 in scholarships

The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club’s “Hats Off!” Luncheon & Style Show was held May 17 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

A silent auction held during event raised more than $1,100 for Backpack Buddies.

About 100 guests enjoyed a fashion show conducted by Martha Caywood of The Derby Shoppe & Raggs in Danville following the luncheon, which was prepared by club members.

Proceeds from the luncheon and candy sales will fund the club’s community outreach projects during the coming year.

During the past month, the club awarded $3,175 in scholarships to Hunter Campbell, Matthew Hahnes and Lexanna Overbee.

The club sponsored a student art show May 10 at Anderson County High School.

Cash prizes totaling $900 were awarded to Glenna Curry, Jim Edington, Matt Hahnes, Dani Howard, Alana Goodlett, Alison Guzicki, Elizabeth Jones, John Kinder, Kelsey Mullins, Mary Osborne, Kacy Ripy, Logan Sosby and Kathryn Sparks.

“Hats Off!” was the final event of the club’s current year. Monthly meetings will resume Thurs., Sept. 18.
