Dangerous area prompts emergency order from judge

By The Staff

Anderson County Judge-Executive Steve Cornish ordered a portion of Gilbert's Creek Road closed Friday afternoon after it was determined the road was no longer safe.

Cornish closed a section of the road near the river, right next to a spot that collapsed last year.

"It's right near there, on the curve," he said.

Cornish said he signed an executive emergency order Friday afternoon.

The road, also known as state Highway 513, connects with US 127 Bypass just south of the Bluegrass Parkway. It is an east-west road that runs to the Kentucky River before veering into neighboring Mercer County.

The road suffered a significant collapse last year, requiring the rebuilding of a small bridge and tons of large rocks to shore up a nearby bank.
