There’s no need to wait for UK, the Bengals or any of the other college or NFL teams to start playing for real — the Bearcats do that tonight when they host Bryan Station in their season opener.
Kickoff is 7:30 at the high school. Admission is $5.
The Bearcats made it to the state finals last year and are expected to field a rugged team again this year under head coach Mark Peach.
For those who can’t attend, follow sports editor John Herndon on Twitter at ANewsJPHerndon for live updates, and check back here for results following the game.
Tonight’s game will also feature an appearance by members of the school’s first district champions when members of the 1972 team are honored at halftime.
Tonight’s game could be a barn-burner against speedy Bryan Station.
“They are like a team of Usain Bolts,” Peach said when describing the Defenders. “If it were the 4x100-meter relay, we wouldn’t have a chance, but we are playing football.”
