Saffell student places in conservation poster contest

Savannah Thompson, a fourth grader at Saffell Street Elementary, placed ninth out of 43,000 entries for her artwork at the state Jim Claypool Art Contest.
Thompson is a daughter of Chris and Dana Thompson and granddaughter of Bobby and Linda Durr and Allen and Julia Thompson of Lawrenceburg.
Each year, the fourth graders at Saffell Street Elementary participate in the Jim Claypool Art Contest sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts.
According to a press release from the school, “the purpose of the contest is to teach students the importance of water, soil and wildlife conservation.”
Thompson won first place at the area six district level competition. For her local win, Savannah received a certificate, plaque and $50 check from the Kentucky Farm Bureau.
