With Anderson County High School Principal Ray Woodyard’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the current school year, the school’s site based council is beginning its search for a new leader.

The council met Monday afternoon and spoke with Superintendent Kim Shaw about the search process.

Shaw informed the members that the job has already been posted, and several applications have come in. Shaw said he will screen the applications as they come in, and submit the candidates he thinks are best qualified for the job to the site based council at the end of the application period.

“This is the most important decision a council has to make,” Shaw said. “I won’t send you a name if I feel [the person] isn’t capable of leading this high school.”

Council members will be in training today (Wednesday) on what they should look for a in a new principal and how the process will progress.

The council sought parent input through an online survey, which closed today, and will use the information collected when making its decision.
