Second graders raise money for Buddy Walk

Two students and friends from Emma B. Ward Elementary are raising money and looking for registered walkers for the 10th annual Buddy Walk on Oct. 6.
Second graders Jordan Ball and Elijah Penn have participated in the Buddy Walk for the past few years to raise money for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky organization.
“Jordan’s Team” raised $7,802 last year and rewarded for his efforts by being featured on a billboard advertisement for the 2012 Buddy Walk.
Elijah hopes to be the next one on a billboard by being the team with the most registered walkers for the event, according to Elijah’s mother Darlene Penn.
Elijah’s team was about 20 registered walkers away last year from achieving the goal of being on the billboard, Darlene said. As of Friday afternoon, “Elijah’s Construction Crew” had 88 registered walkers and was in the lead. This year will be the third year Elijah has participated.
“It’s a lot of fun, and of course, the money is for a good cause,” Darlene said.
The Buddy Walk registration and family fun activities will be from 9:30-11 a.m., with the Buddy Walk from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A lunch celebration will be held from 1-2 p.m.
To register or donate for both Jordan and Elijah’s teams, visit http://www.buddywalk.kintera.org/dsack and look for “Jordan’s Team” and “Elijah’s Construction Crew.”
The Buddy Walk will take place at the Thoroughbred Center, Paris Pike, in Lexington.

Fundraiser for Buddy Walk
A fundraiser for “Elijah’s Construction Crew” will be held at Stink’s Diner, located at 1085 Eagle Lake Drive behind Best Donuts shop, on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 5-8 p.m.
All drink proceeds and donations will go toward Elijah Penn’s Buddy Walk team, which will be raising money for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky (DSACK) organization on Saturday.
