The Anderson County High School volleyball team was unable to overcome the emotions of Senior Night in dropping a 3-0 decision to Bardstown Bethlehem Thursday night.

Bethlehem took advantage of Anderson's unforced errors to claim a 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 win.

Anderson, playing on the home court for the final time this season, entered 30th District Tournament play with a 10-12 record while Bethlehem finished its regular season at 12-9.

The Lady Bearcats had moments of solid play but were unable to maintain consistency through the contest, according to coach Ryan Brown.

“We had unforced errors,” Brown said. “When we make unforced errors, we are basically just giving the other team a free point.”

Brown acknowledged the activities of Senior Night played a role in Anderson's play. “On Senior Night, there are distractions from all directions,” he said. “My five seniors were emotional. They were happy. They were sad. They were laughing. They were crying. It affects the others too. (The match) was an emotional struggle.”

Brown also gave his seniors more chances to shine during their final home match. “We had a couple of rotations they were not used to playing.

“I thought my seniors stepped up well. Hannah Drury had some good swings. Sydney Davis had a big night. Chelsea Brak had some good hits. Annie (McDannold) and Janna (Halvorson) played good defense. My player of the game was all my seniors.”

The night before, Anderson dropped a 25-15, 25-18 decision at Nelson County, a team Anderson had beaten in four sets earlier in the year. “I think our Senior Night was on our minds. We were not ready to play.” Nelson entered its district tournament at 10-22.

Last Monday, Anderson led early but Madison Central, one of the better teams in the 11th Region, rallied for a 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 win in Richmond. “It was their Senior Night and it took them a while to get going. We struggled once (Madison Central) settled down.”

Madison Central entered tournament play at 20-4.
