TAYLORSVILLE -- Shelby County used a 16-0 run to start the second quarter and defeated Anderson County 73-61 for the boys' 30th District basketball championship Saturday night at Spencer County High School.
Leading 8-7 after a quarter, Anderson suddenly disintegrated as Shelby's pressure defense forced turnovers near mid-court and the Bearcats missed countless easy shots. By halftime, Shelby had doubled the score at 34-17 and was well on its way to avenging losses in last year's district final and in the 2007-08 regular season.
