The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club will join the statewide chapters of the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs as volunteers at the Feb. 5 Shop & Share program at Kroger supermarkets.
Shop & Share promotes domestic violence awareness and collects donations of non-perishable food, personal care and housekeeping items to be distributed at domestic violence shelters across the state, according to a news release.
Club members will accept donations (lists of needed items will be available) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kroger market at Anderson Crossing and 127 Bypass South.
Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear began this annual drive in 2008. Shop & Share has raised approximately $205,000 in goods and donations each of the past two years.
Beshear recently issued the following statement:
“All of us are aware of the terrible crime of domestic violence. And whether we know it or not, many of us have friends or family members who have been victims themselves. As first lady, I have had the opportunity to visit with victims of domestic violence in shelters across the state. And as these individuals struggle to regain control of their lives, shelters struggle to provide the simple necessities that most of us take for granted, like canned food, soap and diapers.
“This is why I am asking for your help. 'Shop and Share Day' is Saturday, Feb. 5, at Kroger locations across the state…. As you do your weekly shopping, please consider donating items.”
