Tamara Barriger Smith, a Lawrenceburg native, joined The Anderson News on Oct. 10 as an advertising sales representative for the award-winning weekly newspaper.
Smith, who received a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations from the University of Kentucky, cites her years of experience in print design, ad campaigns and media planning in the Lawrenceburg area as strengths she’ll bring to The Anderson News.
“Today, there are so many media options of when and from where we access our information that some may think technology and the Internet have taken the place of printed publications like newspapers or magazines,” Smith said. “In some instances, that’s true. But in my opinion, that is definitely not the case of The Anderson News and the way that our community turns to it.”
Smith said the Anderson County community depends on the newspaper to catch up on what’s happened, what’s coming up, student activities, team sports and the growth of the community.
“Actually, it’s pretty amazing that my kids ask where the paper is when they get home from school on Wednesday afternoons, just like I did when I was growing up here,” Smith said. “Now if that’s not a community tradition, I don’t know what is.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome a person of Tamara’s caliber to our team,” Publisher Ben Carlson said. “She’s a talented professional and a great addition to our wonderful staff.”
Smith is married to Joe Smith and has two daughters, Kallie Jo and Sophie. She stays on the go with her family’s busy schedules and focuses on friends and family as much as possible, but remains involved with and supports the Chamber of Commerce and the Lawrenceburg Junior Cotillion.
