Anderson County freshman Mia Aldridge fired a one-hitter as the Lady Bearcats rolled to a 9-0 win over Madison Southern in the Tomahawk Classic at Madison Central Saturday.

Aldridge walked just one and threw first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 26 batters she faced.

Bailey Curry drove in three runs while Katelyn Harrod pushed two more across to lead the Anderson attack. Molly Burkhead and Alissa Vest both had two hits for the Lady Bearcats.

“Our speed really hurt Madison Southerns chances,” Anderson coach Brian Glass said. “We stole a lot of bases. Mia Aldridge started this game and pitched well.”

The Lady Bearcats squandered an early 2-0 lead and fell to Centerville, Ohio in their other game at the Tomahawk Classic. The event was not a tournament but each team played two games, according to Glass.

Freshman Ally Moore struck out eight but Centerville tied it in the fourth and plated single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Marissa Walker led the Anderson offense with two hits.

“We came out very flat against Centerville,” Glass said. “We jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but couldn't get going. We made some mental mistakes and were not disciplined at the plate.”
