Softball team distributes honors

The Anderson County High School softball team celebrated its Eighth Region championship and a fifth place finish in the state tournament with its annual awards banquet on June 19.

Anderson finished the season with a 31-15 record and was ranked as high as 11th in the state during the season.

Head coach Brian Glass honored his team with several players sharing separate awards. Those honored with Offensive Awards were Courtney Turpin, Caitlyn Royalty, Miranda Drury and Lauren Brown.

Defensive Awards went to catcher Tiffany Davenport, shortstop Emily Ethington and center fielder Royalty.

Royalty and Christina Harvey earned Baserunning Awards while Ethington, Makenzie Stoner and Karrah Bottoms were named Most Improved.

Turpin, who picked up 24 wins and had an 0.79 ERA, earned the Pitching Award.

The 212 Degree Award went to Emily Bucklew, Kritty Morrow, Mary Ann Warford and Drury.

The team also recognized Royalty as an All-State honorable mention and Royalty, Ethington and Drury as members of the West Senior All-Stars.

Freshman Awards went to Clay Hawkins (Offensive Award), Ashley Cotton (Defensive Award), Kelsey New (Pitching Award) and Charlotte Callan (Coaches' Award).

The Freshman 212 Degree Award went to Morgan Cubert and Chelsea Bright.
