Riley competing at state golf tournament
Anderson County High School golfer Kaitlyn Riley is competing at the girls' state high school tournament being held at Bowling Green Country Club. Riley won a playoff in the regional tournament to advance to the state for the third straight year.
Riley was to have played the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, after press deadlines. Golfers who make the cut after the first day will come back for the final round on Wednesday. Check www.theandersonnews.comfor updates as they become available.
Christian Academy volleyball prepping for state tournaments
The Kentucky Christian Athletic Association volleyball season is drawing to a close. The Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg Lady Rams host Highlands out of Louisville on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Fox Creek Christian Church.
The junior varsity match begins at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Lady Rams face Academy of Individual Excellence for the second time this year. The match will also be at Fox Creek Christian Church.
The Lady Rams JV squad won the first match 21-14, 21-23 and 21-13.
The KCAA JV Tourney begins on Friday, Oct. 19 with the varsity tournaemnt opening the following Friday. The tournament will be held at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia.
Registrations still being taken for Bearcat basketball 5K
The Anderson County Bearcat basketball 5K run/walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. The race will start behind Anderson County Middle School and will be a mostly flat course and will be controlled by police. There will be a water stop at the halfway point and refreshments will be available at the end of the race.
The race raises money for the Anderson County High School boys' basketball team. Many door prizes will be awarded that day. Pre-registration is $15 per person before Oct. 18. After that date, registration is $20 per person. Participants must register by Oct. 18 to guarantee a t-shirt, which is included in the race fee. The Anderson News wants your sports news but it must be received by deadlines in order to be published in timely fashion. Announcements and news briefs should be submitted by noon on Friday for inclusion in the following week's paper. Weekend results are accepted until 9 a.m. on Monday.
