Golfers sweep Woodford

Lee Robinson shot an even-par 35 to lead Anderson County to a 10-stroke win over Woodford County last Thursday at Woodford Hills Country Club.

“Lee's short game produced a shot of the year candidate with a par save from near a tree on the par-3 second hole,” said Anderson coach Jim Beward.

Robinson carded the low score of the day while Tyler Harrod and Nick Wilson both scored 38s for the Bearcats.

Woodford, which was playing without its No. 1 player, Corey Rush, was led by Ryan Roark's 37.

Beward called for his team to have a practice round at Woodford Hills the day before the match. “The guys produced another solid nine holes of golf and this lineup seems to be clicking on all cylinders,” he said.

The Anderson junior varsity also defeated Woodford 168-201 as Zachary Toles shot a 38 to lead the Bearcats. Josh Brown followed with a 40.

The Bearcat varsity will participate in the Danville Invitational at Danville Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 14 before a big conference showdown with Franklin County on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Wild Turkey Trace.

The Anderson junior varsity, unbeaten in conference play, will defend its conference tournament title on Friday, Sept. 13 at Bright Leaf Golf Course in Harrodsburg.

Team seeking sponsors

The Anderson team is seeking sponsors and participants for a scramble it is sponsoring on Sunday, Sept. 22. Full hole sponsorships are $200 and entry fees for foursomes are also $200. For more information, contact Beward at james.beward@anderson.kyschools.us.
