Christian Academy eight grader Brooke Carpenter was selected to participate in the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.
The state bee will be held in Bowling Green on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Brooke was the school winner and then completed a written geography test in order to qualify. Being a state participant means that Brooke placed in the top 100 of all the students in the state of Kentucky who took the test.
One winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition which will be held at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild will air the final round of the 2012 National Geographic Bee, moderated by Alex Trebek, on May 24.
