A "substantial" amount of cash and a variety of tools were stolen earlier this month from a residence at 1219 Herndon Road and Kentucky State Police are determined to find out who did it.
Trooper Trevor Harris said the unspecified amount of cash and the safe it was in were reported stolen July 13. He said the cash, safe and tools were stolen from an outbuilding behind the residence, out of which the homeowner operates a lawn mowing business.
Harris said he is combing the area looking for leads to solve the case.
"We don't have any suspects at this time, but we're hoping some publicity will bring about a person of interest," he said. "We're hoping that someone will have seen someone with a large amount of cash and some leads will surface."
Harris said he is keeping a close watch on pawn shops to see if any of the tools are sold.
Harris said the person who owned the safe and tools wasn't home at the time of the burglary, which occurred between July 10 and 13.
He said the homeowner was away but that another person who lives there was "in and out" during that time.
He said the burglar gained entrance into the workshop through a rear window.
The burglary on Herndon Road appears to be an isolated incident, he said.
"We haven't had a lot of problems there," he said. "People are doing a good job watching out for each other."
Harris said people should always be vigilant to secure their homes and valuables by locking their doors. Neighbors, he said, should report at once people who appear suspicious.
