Emily Franck, a student at Robert B. Turner Elementary, recently won an AARP essay contest, according to a news release.
Emily’s essay was about her grandmother Bell Bryant, Turner Principal Wayne Reese wrote in an email.
The essay contest is sponsored by the AARP and is open to all fifth grade students who want to write about their grandparent and how important they are in their lives, Reese wrote.
The essay is part of an initiative designed to recognize the significant contributions that older Kentuckians make toward shaping the lives and values of the Commonwealth’s young people, Reese said.
Emily’s essay will now participate in the state level of competition and the winner from that will be recognized at the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association’s convention on April 22.
