Four teenagers were seriously injured  in a car accident Tuesday afternoon after allegedly crashing into a tree on Rice Road, located just off US 62.

Emergency management personnel and firefighters responded at about 4:30 p.m. and worked quickly to extract a young man and a young woman from a gray Nissan Altima, which had flipped over onto its hood and appeared to have landed the middle of Rice Road. Two other young women were being treated by EMS off to the side, away from the vehicle.

According to Public Safety Director Bart Powell, all four teenagers sustained "serious injuries."

Two teens were airlifted in separate helicopters to the University of Kentucky medical center. The other two female passengers were transported to UK by ambulance.

Anderson county fire, sheriff's office and EMS responded to the scene.

No names have been released by the sheriff's office, the agency investigating the accident.
