Anderson County placed second in the silver bracket of the Second Annual Volleyball SMASH Tournament, held at the high school Friday and Saturday. Eight additional teams participated with LaRue County being crowned the gold champions in a stellar performance over Madison Central for the title.

Anderson fell to Bardstown (25-19, 25-27, 15-6) for silver bracket crown.

"Our players fought hard in the second match to make a come back from several points down to pull off a victory over the Tigers." said Anderson coach Courtney DeLong. "It was an exciting match with both teams fighting hard for silver."

"We had some impressive plays, big defense and accurate serves that helped us topple the Tigers in the second match," said assistant coach Bob Hardin.

That momentum didn't carry over in the third game. The Lady Bearcats trailed in the third game as Bardstown took a 15-6 win.

Taylor County won the bronze bracket over Beth Haven and East Jessamine took the copper bracket with a win over Spencer County. Henry County also participated in the tournament.

"This year's SMASH Tournament was a tremendous success and helped to raise funds for our Lady Bearcat volleyball program," said DeLong.

"It's also win-win for both our team and our community who benefit each year from this event,” Hardin said.
