Vote on swimming pool expected Tuesday

Fiscal court to meet at 10 a.m.

Residents could find out Tuesday if Anderson County will get its own public swimming facility.

Judge-Executive John Wayne Conway said Friday that he intends to bring his proposed $2.8 million swimming facility to a vote when the Anderson County Fiscal Court meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. A work session is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Both are open to the public, and the 10 a.m. meeting will include time for public comments.

Fiscal court magistrates were already expecting to hear the results of a $15,000 study approved earlier this year by magistrates to determine the viability of a swimming facility. The authors of that study are scheduled to present their findings Tuesday, which will include projected operating costs.

Conway has said it’s crucial that the facility be able to cover its own operating costs, excluding construction, which will be funded by taxpayers.

Conway has said he hopes to secure private donations to bring down the overall construction costs.

The facility is expected to include a splash park, six competition swim lanes, a large wading area, water slide and other amenities.

If approved, it will be built on land previously used for a pulling track in the county park.
