To the editor:
A world in peace is something that some of us cannot imagine. I know that as long as I can remember there has been war in some part of the world that affected me in some way.
How can we establish a lasting peace you may ask? Some may say by raging more wars to gain the advantage over other countries. This is the wrong answer. War only creates more war.
To create lasting peace we must go back to the ways of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dorothy Days and other peace activists. They did not resort to violence to get their points across to their communities or to the world. What we need today are more great, inspiring, knowledgeable and passionate people to speak to their communities about the state of the world today and what we can do to change it.
We need to raise children who want to do something to help change the way things are. They need to have a passion and a fire within them to want to learn about peace and how they can make a difference. Of course this outlook does not just affect our young people and our children it affects everyone else as well. We can all pitch in and do our part to make a difference in this world.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” –Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
