Bruce Springate, member of the 100th division, was to leave for Fort Chaffee, Ark.
He graduated from Eastern State College the year before and received his commission of Second Lieutenant and spent six months at Fort Knox.
Springate had planned to enter Eastern again in the fall to work on his Master’s Degree, teach part time at Model High in Richmond and to assist coach Paul McBrayer in coaching.
He played basketball at Eastern four years. He is a son of Mrs. Rebecca Springate of Fairview.
