  • Don’t fall for the enemy’s fake religion

    Is the enemy capable of producing a fake, counterfeit religion? Absolutely. If the enemy, Satan, can get well-meaning people to believe that by doing a thing — sitting on a church pew for a couple of hours a week — is a proper response and all that is necessary to be in a right relationship with God, he has succeeded.
    I have heard it said like this: “Sitting in a hen house don’t make you a chicken.”

  • What’s important in your life?

    Many years ago, I befriended an elderly gentleman who lived in a nursing home near Dresden, Tennessee.

    Mr. Garner was in his mid-80s, with failing health but had a very sharp mind.

    Frequently, if I was in Dresden on business, I would go by the nursing home and take Mr. Garner with me as I did my business to give him a break form his bleak living conditions.

    I wish to take a slight detour in my feeble efforts to do my homework, and prepare something worthwhile for the readers of this “faith” article.
    Most of this week’s article is taken from a quote from a young pastor that I am acquainted with, and quite amazed by the power of his ministry and  what God is doing in his church.

    Sand Spring Baptist Church
    offers new class for men
    All men are invited to a new Bible study coming soon.
    The study “33 The Series” by Authentic Manhood is about setting men up to live lives of truth, passion and purpose.
    The men will study God’s clear design and definition for authentic manhood. It is built around the life that Jesus modeled in his 33 years on earth.
    The class be offered at two different times — on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. The classes begin April 10 and 13.

  • Bible study is Friday at Alton Christian Church

    The Bible study group called Friday Night Alive at Alton Christian Church will present “The Grace Card” movie at 6 p.m. Friday, March 18 at the church, located at 1686 Old Frankfort Road.
    “Everything can change in an instant and take a lifetime to rebuild relationships by extending forgiveness through God’s grace,” organizers said.
    “Come join us for a time of food and fellowship learning about the powerful healing that comes through forgiveness.”

    Beast Feast returns to Sand Spring on March 5
    Sand Spring Baptist Church will host its biannual Beast Feast on Saturday, March 5.
    Tickets are $10 and go on sale Saturday, Feb. 20 at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Starting Monday, Feb. 22, tickets will then be available at the church office.
    Doors open March at 2 p.m. The program starts at 3:45 p.m.
    Guest speaker is Bro. Terry Cooper of Nineveh Christian Church. Musical entertainment will be provided by Kevin Chilton and KY Spirit.

    Valentine’s Day event set
    at Pigeon Fork Baptist
    Pigeon Fork Baptist Church will have a Valentine’s Day lunch Feb. 14 following the morning worship service that begins at 11 a.m.
    This will be a time to celebrate God’s love and meet the new Pastor Vernon Carpenter and his wife Lois, organizers said.
    The church is located at 5090 Hickory Ridge Road in Waddy.
