  • Pray for Miley Cyrus and the state of the family

    Last week, social media and entertainment websites lit up in the moments following Miley Cyrus’ performance on MTV’s Video Music Award show. Truth be told, the VMAs have never been a place where decorum and decency have been expected. Since my high school days of watching MTV envelope-pushing was taking place then; by today’s standards what was jaw-dropping then may seem pretty tame today.

    Salvisa Christian Church to host free clothes day
    Salvisa Christian Church will sponsor a community free clothes day on Monday, Sept. 2, from 1:30-4:30 p.m.  All sizes will be available, including  school clothes.

  • Day coming when Christians expected to compromise beliefs

    On Aug. 22 the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that wedding photographer Elaine Huguenin violated state law when she declined to photograph a lesbian “commitment ceremony” because of her Christian beliefs that homosexuality is a sin.
    As a result of the ruling, she and her husband were ordered to pay more than $6,000 in attorney’s fees to the lesbian couple.

    to sponsor Make-A-Blanket Day
    Salvisa Christian Church will sponsor a Project Linus Make-A-Blanket Day on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Participants should feel free to come and go as they are able, event organizers said.
    A potluck lunch will be served. Event organizers ask that participants bring 1.5 yards of fleece in any color or characters pleasing to children aged infant to 18.

    Sand Spring Baptist announces upcoming events
    Sand Spring Baptist Church, located at 1616 Harrodsburg Road, will be hosting a concert Aug. 23 at 7 p.m., according to a news release.
    Southern Gospel Groups “The Shireys” from Columbia, S.C., and “The Jay Stone Singers” from Hope Mills, N.C., will be in concert at Sand Spring Baptist Church.
    Love offering will be available.

  • Stay vigilant and connected with your children

    Sept. 21 may be the official last day of summer on our calendars, but hundreds of students bid summer a poetic farewell as they filled classrooms this morning for their first day of another school year in Anderson County.
    You could almost hear the adolescent anxiety humming like a street lamp yesterday evening. Feelings of excitement, dread and outright despair marked many of our young people as they prepared for another year of social integration and educational pursuits.

    The congregation of Sand Spring Baptist Church invites the public to join them Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. as they host a free David Platt simulcast titled “Follow Me,” a news release from the church said.

    Glensboro Christian Church will host its free sixth Ladies Day Outreach Program on Aug. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. at 2963 Glensboro Road in Lawrenceburg.

  • Government should leave life-changing to Jesus

    Last Tuesday, a New York appeals court ruled that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s effort to place a size limit on non-diet sodas, which had in turn been imposed by the local board of health, was unconstitutional and an excessive use of power.
    This determination to curb the city’s obesity epidemic brings up the question: “How much control should our government have over the lives of the citizens?”

    kicks off with bubble party
    Mom2Mom, a faith-based group for Lawrenceburg moms and their children, will kick off the year with a bubble party Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Legion park in Lawrenceburg.
    Those interested are asked to bring a towel and swimwear; bubbles and snacks will be provided. All mothers and their children from Lawrenceburg and surrounding areas are invited.
