  • VBS planned at Alton Baptist

    Kidz Mania! is the theme of Alton Baptist Church’s vacation Bible school which is planned for July 18 through July 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

    Ned and his wife Joan, the creators of Kidz Mania! are professional illusionists, jugglers and family/kids evangelists based out of Louisville.

    They have performed for Ringling Brother’s/Barnum and Bailey Circus, Disneyland, Disney World, cruise ships and other notable places. They have also been featured performers with Kid’s Gig, a part of the Billy Graham Crusade.

  • Faith Bible Baptist opens

    A new church, Faith Bible Baptist Church, has opened in Lawrenceburg.

    Located at 209 East Woodford St. behind Scott Brown Karate School, the church is an independent and fundamental group that uses the King James Bible.

    Congregants practice a traditional style of worship and “aim to evangelize the gospel to the unchurched, strengthen and help the dissatisfied members of the community that are not going to church,” according to Pastor Nathan Mowery.

    Waddy Church of Faith homecoming planned

    The Waddy Church of Faith homecoming begins at 10 a.m. July 10.

    Lunch will follow the service.

    The annual camp meeting is set for July 11 through 15, with services at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

    Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the church.

    Food can be purchased following evening services.

    Events include visiting ministers and special music each evening.

    Sunday school is at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday services are at 7 p.m.

    If you happen to read this article with any frequency, you would know that I like to point out the cultural shifts, and what I see as challenges for society (our children) going forward.

    Tim Challies said, “The gospel was not given to a world without sin, without confusion, without difficulty and persecution — that world needs no gospel. The gospel was given to a world like this one, a world marked by every kind of pain and perversity.

    This world needs a gospel, and praise God, he gave us one. He gave us the gospel of his son.

    I heard someone say that they once cried out, “Can things possibly get any worse?” They said that was meant to be a rhetorical question, and not a challenge.

    Have you ever heard the testimony of Nick Vujicic? If not, I think you should. Nick was born in Melborne, Australia in 1982 to very Godly parents. His dad was a preacher.

    Nick was born without any limbs. No arms or legs.

    Jeff Niklaus, who took part in the real-life mission that inspired the movie “BlackHawk Down,” will share his story at 6 p.m. June 26 at Anderson Christian Church.

    “Jeff weaves his faith into his story,” Brandon Dulaney, head minister at Anderson Christian Church, said. “He shares from lessons learned and experiences gained and doesn’t shy away from sharing God’s role in his life.”
