  • Alton Baptist welcomes new minister

    Chance McConnell has accepted the position of director of ministries and education at Alton Baptist Church, and will coordinate the church’s programs in outreach, discipleship and missions.
    A native of Princeton, McConnell is a recent graduate of Campbellsville University with a degree in pastoral ministries, and will be enrolling in Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall.

    Farmdale Baptist offers free clothing,
    fresh vegetables
    Free clothing will be available for men, women and children July 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Farmdale Baptist Church, the church announced.
    There will also be a limited supply of fresh vegetables from the church's community garden.
    The clothing was donated through the church’s Clothes Closet Ministry.
    The church is located at 5610 US 127 South, just across the Franklin County line.

  • Lessons learned in belly of the great fish

    This week I want to revisit the tale of Jonah and the whale.
    The story of Jonah, God’s prophet, is told by God: “Go to the great city of Ninevah and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” Jonah 1:2.
    Ninevah was the capital of Assyria and very much a hated enemy of Israel. Jonah knew God was capable of forgiving the Ninevites, and this made him not want to do what God commanded.

    Fourth of July celebration
    Freedom Baptist Church, located at 1010 Powell Taylor Road, will be hosting a Fourth of July celebration on June 30, starting at 5 p.m.
    Event organizers invite the community to “come join us for food, a brief message from Brian Proctor and fireworks at dusk.”

    Mount Eden Christian to host concert
    Mount Eden Christian Church will feature the “Journeymen” during its 11 a.m. service on Sunday, July 1.

  • Solomon gives answers to meaning of life

    What is the meaning of life?
    It’s hard to fathom sometimes why we are here and what our purpose in life is.
    That’s why I find the Bible so intriguing. It has all of the answers.
    Let me explain. God blessed King Solomon in 1 Kings Chapter 3 with, “a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you (Solomon), nor will there ever be.”
    God also blessed Solomon with “both riches and honor so that in your lifetime (Solomon) you will have no equal among kings.”

    Homecoming at Pigeon Fork Baptist Church to be held June 24
    Pigeon Fork Baptist Church, located on Highway 1472 on Hickory Ridge Road, will hold its homecoming June 24.  
    The morning service will begin at 11. The message will be given by former pastor Charlie Broggan. A potluck lunch will be served. The homecoming will also include a gospel concert featuring “The Garry Polston Family” at 1:30 p.m.

    Sand Spring offers concert June 23
