  • Consider the Bible story of ‘the rich, young ruler’

If you have attended Church or read the Bible much at all, you likely know the story of “the rich, young ruler.” Matt. 10:17-22 “As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him, and knelt before Him, and asked Him, ‘Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good, except God alone.

Activities planned at Pigeon Fork Baptist

Pigeon Fork Baptist Church will host a community “Bridge” event at the Waddy Ruritan Club on Friday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 pm.

Come hear gospel and country groups sing, grab a hot dog or some popcorn, try out the inflatable obstacle course, play washers, corn toss, and ladder toss, or just enjoy fellowship with your neighbors, organizers said in a news release.

  • Christians need to stand for truth in today’s world

I read a tweet this week that stated “Liberalism, where a man can become a woman, but not a Christian.” It would be humorous if it weren’t true.

Did you know that the House of Representatives in the U.S. Congress voted this past week to continue to fund sex changes and gender reassignment hormone treatment in the U.S. Military?

  • Are you alive for sin or the promises of God?

If you have read this article with any frequency, you probably know that I love to refer to Ephesians, chapter 2 in the Bible. For me, it simply outlines man’s relation to God. It begins, “You were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you once walked in the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now is at work in the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of our body and mind, and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind.”

  • People have turned away from God’s truth

I wish to express my gratitude for the opportunity that I have to submit religious articles to The Anderson News.

I am not a preacher in the traditional sense. I have never had a church, and I have not been to a seminary or religious school. I have had an opportunity to minister to hurting men and women in the jail system and drug rehab program. I do strive to be a student of the Bible, and I am a sinner saved by grace.

  • Faith, not our own efforts, is the key to salvation

Most Christians agree that we are not justified in Christ Jesus by anything that we have done. We are not called based on the standard of holiness we have attained.

But questions arise in our hearts. Do I do enough? Do I pray enough? Do I serve others enough? Do I hate sin enough? Do I have the right theological conviction? Has Christ done enough in me so that I may attain Heaven?

God’s love is answer for our strife-filled nation

A couple of weeks ago, I made a comment in this column around the graduating students at Notre Dame turning their backs on Vice President Mike Pence as he was speaking about civility, and political correctness at their graduation exercises.

I am sure that you know about the shooting of well-known lawmaker Steve Scalise while he was at practice for a charity baseball game.

These law makers were targeted by James Hodgkinson, allegedly because they are Republicans.
