  • Why are there so many religions?

    You drive around Lawrenceburg and see Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and Catholic churches.
    There are, of course, many other religions world wide.
    When people ask why there are so many different religions, I have a fairly simple response. Like my preacher would say, there are really only two types of religion — religion of do or done — the difference being one is based on human accomplishment and one is based on divine achievement.

  • Learn from Peter; share God’s word

    How many times do we deny Christ in the way we live our lives? It’s really scary to me how often I fail to acknowledge and live a life centered upon Christ.
    What does the Bible tell us about those that deny Christ, and then repent? An important example is Simon Peter.
    We all remember how Peter denied Jesus publicly three times on the eve of Jesus’ crucifixion.
    However, after Peter denied Jesus he wept bitterly, sorrowfully repenting.

    Pleasant Hill Christian hosts fish fry
    Pleasant Hill Christian church will host its annual fish fry on Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church Activities building.
    The dinner will be $5 a plate. There will be a concert to follow by the Lindseys of Greensburg at the church building. Pleasant Hill Christian is located at 3316 Mount Eden Road. For more information, contact Jerry Shely at 839-7108.

    Are you a Christian? It’s a very simple yes or no question.
    Most people typically will say they are a “Christian” here in Anderson County.
    Now, I ask you if you are currently making new Christians or disciples of Christ? Are you? If not, are you really a Christian? Can you count how many people you have personally shared the story of Jesus with? Is the answer a couple, a hundred, perhaps none?

  • Learning God’s lessons while serving in Ecuador

    Greetings, my friends.
    I am writing you from Cuenca, Ecuador. What a blessing it is to be able to come and serve God on foreign soil.
    I am actually working on a church facility near Tambo, high in the Andes Mountains.
    Words cannot express the beauty and tranquility of this place. The people are reminiscient of their Incan relatives of the past. The women wear very bright colored dresses and the men typically wear fancy hats.
    Nearly everyone grows their own food in the form of cattle, sheep, goats and chickens.

    Shiloh Christian hosts
    annual Homecoming Sept. 23
    Shiloh Christian Church will host its annual homecoming services Sept. 23.
    The Hilltop Trio will be in concert at 10 a.m., followed by regular worship services at 11 and a potluck luncheon immediately following services.
    “Those who have not visited in some time should make plans to attend, as the church has been blessed to be able to make lots of improvements to the building and grounds, including paving our parking area,” event organizers said.
