    Jeremiah is such an interesting character of the Bible. He authored Jeremiah and Lamentations. Jeremiah was a very much-hated man because of his prophecies.
    He was scoffed at, people plotted to kill him, and he was commanded to remain celibate and not to participate in public celebrations.

    Westside news and notes
    On July 1 Pastor F.D. Robinson baptized Glenn Dunn, Samuel Green, JoAnn Rucker, Brandon Jones and Ladonna Bell.
    On July 20 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went to the movies.
    On July 22 Westside held its last Sunday Service at 700 West Broadway.
    On July 28 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went bowling.

  • Rest assured, even atheists will meet God

    I am often confused by the concept of atheism and ponder that there are those who actually reject the existence of God.
    How can someone step back and look at the vastness of our world, the beauty and intricacies of nature, to see your own eyes in your child’s eyes and believe this is all an accident?
    To me it borders on actual hatred for God as opposed to love of him. I believe even the unreached villager in Papua New Guinea acknowledges God.

    First United Methodist holds
    annual Chautauqua event
    This marks the 26th year of Chautauqua at Frankfort’s First United Methodist Church.
    All programs will begin at 7 p.m., with the first program in the sanctuary. The remainder of the series’ programs will be held in Asbury Hall of the Wesley Center.
    On Aug.5, the Capital City Community band, under the director of noted Frankfort musician Tom Brawner, returns to lead off the series.

  • Facts that non-believers don’t want to read

    I find the Bible to be so fascinating. Non-Christians or general non-believers often scoff at the Bible being accurate or true at all.
    It’s fascinating how anyone could believe such an amazing work of literature written over 2,000 years ago and compiled by numerous authors all inspired by God can be so easily dismissed.
    I am most surprised that some dismiss it when historically there is no doubt a man named Jesus lived and was crucified.

  • Church briefs: Alton Baptist welcomes new worship leader

    Kris Grimes has accepted the position of worship leader, Alton Baptist Church announced.
    Grimes has extensive experience in Christian ministry and church work, the announcement said.
    He previously served Alton as minister of youth, a role he began while still a student at Centre College in Danville and in which he continued for five years.
    He also was instrumental in helping plant the Centershot archery ministry in churches all across the country.

  • Share Christ’s message with evil-doers, too

    The Colorado shooting spree that took place last week is one of the saddest and most disturbing things I can imagine.
    My heart and my prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones and the still injured.
    I often reflect on what kind of a monster this suspect was to apparently commit such a heinous act. It is reminiscient of Columbine or Timothy McVeigh.
    Over the weekend I heard comments from others about what they wish they could do to the perpetrator of this evil act.

    Alton Christian announces
    upcoming events
    Alton Christian Church is collecting items for the Galilean Children's Home, according to a news release.
    Church members will also be taking a trip to the Galilean Home on July 23.
    The church’s youth group is studying the Book of Mark.

    Church of Christ holds
    vacation Bible school
    Lawrenceburg Church of Christ will host its vacation Bible school July 22-25 from 7-9 p.m.
    “Bible Roundup” will be the theme of the week.

  • Alton Baptist welcomes new minister

    Chance McConnell has accepted the position of director of ministries and education at Alton Baptist Church, and will coordinate the church’s programs in outreach, discipleship and missions.
    A native of Princeton, McConnell is a recent graduate of Campbellsville University with a degree in pastoral ministries, and will be enrolling in Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall.

    Farmdale Baptist offers free clothing,
    fresh vegetables
    Free clothing will be available for men, women and children July 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Farmdale Baptist Church, the church announced.
    There will also be a limited supply of fresh vegetables from the church's community garden.
    The clothing was donated through the church’s Clothes Closet Ministry.
    The church is located at 5610 US 127 South, just across the Franklin County line.
