  • Tomatoes are taste of summer

Today, Aug. 31, in a small town called Bunol in Valencia, Spain, 20,000 people are launching ripe tomatoes at each other. They are celebrating the end of the season in style with more than 100 tons of mushy, juicy, red tomatoes. This annual food fight is called La Tomatina and lasts for one hour. It sounds tempting, I can probably think of a few people that would wear the pulp well however, I have a couple of better ideas, tastier too.

Tomatoes go so well with cheese — grilled cheese, mac and cheese, cheese omelets.

  • August is sandwich month

It seems to me, there is a day, week, month, holiday for everything.

Every profession has a day, every food has a day. Being on so many food blogs and pages every week, I am reminded to honor bagels, cupcakes, bacon, broccoli and this month — the sandwich. August apparently is the month for sandwiches, goat cheese and catfish.

I decided to offer three recipes this week that will satisfactorily cover all the bases.
