Fall is on its way and with it come some of my favorite things: leaves of every color calling all around us, football, cool nights around a campfire, the sweet comforting aroma of warm breads and pies straight from the oven, and hot soup simmering on the stove all day. Ahh, I can’t wait!
I love to get up on a Saturday morning and get a pot of soup going for lunch or dinner on a cool day and one of the best parts is that they are usually very good for you.
When summer began, I had big plans to start my first garden. I was inexperienced and overly ambitious and now that August is here I am left with more tomatoes than I could possibly eat even through the rest of the year.
With the old saying “waste not, want not” in the back of my head I am getting very creative with all the things you can do with tomatoes.
One of my favorite meals to make with my kids is breakfast. Maybe I’m more patient with them after we’ve all had a good night sleep, maybe the smell of bacon and eggs makes me happy, or maybe it’s my strong cup of coffee. Either way, it’s one of my favorite times to get in the kitchen with my little ones and let them freely make their little messes and then proudly announce to daddy that, “breakfast is ready!”
Gwen Phipps of Frankfort and Daniel Fuqua of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter Emily Fuqua to Sam Crossfield.
The groom is a son of Robert and Carla Crossfield of Lawrenceburg. He is a 2006 graduate of Anderson County High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Kentucky. He is employed by state.
The bride is a 2009 graduate of Anderson County High School as well as a 2014 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She is employed as a Registered Nurse at Saint Joseph Hospital.
