  • Nominations open for military Freedom Award

    Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
    The Freedom Award is the nation’s highest award for civilian employers that support their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Nominations may be submitted by guardsmen, reservists or family members acting on their behalf at www.FreedomAward.mil through Jan. 21, 2013.

  • Engagement: Metcalf-Smith

    Rebecca Fryman and Troy Metcalf announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Dawn Metcalf, to Jacob Smith, son of Lori McKinney and Glenn Smith.
    The ceremony will be held Dec. 22, 2012, at Alton Christian Church at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow at Eagle Lake Convention Center.
    The couple will reside in Colorado where the groom is stationed in the military.

  • Anniversary: Whitehouse

    Howard Curtis and Mildred Jones Whitehouse will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 21.
    The couple met while they were employed by the Kentucky Department of Highways Central Office in Frankfort.
    They were married on Thanksgiving eve on Nov. 21, 1962 at Great Crossing Baptist Church in Georgetown, with the Rev. Eugene Reynolds officiating.
    Mildred retired from the Department of Highways in 1965.
    Howard retired from the University of Kentucky in 1992.

  • Humane Society receives $1,500

    Local businessmen Adam Shrout and Chase Parker of Talk of the Town recently raised more than $1,500 in donations for the Anderson Humane Society, according to a press release from the Humane Society.
    Shrout and Parker joined with Lovers Leap Vineyard and Winery to hold a fundraising event on Oct. 20. Visitors got to sample local wines and Talk of the Town’s food, and buy raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses, including a large framed turkey print from the Frame Clinic and a gift basket from Four Roses Distillery.

  • Anniversary: Breeding

    Ralph and Wanda Breeding are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 3 with an open house reception Nov. 11 at First Baptist Church.
    Ralph married the former Wanda Sparks on Nov. 3, 1952, in Wilmington, Del.
    “The Breedings note that their faith, love and commitment to each other have brought them many blessings over the past 60 years,” according to the submitted announcement.

  • Anniversary: Hyatt

    Edward Earl and Mary Jo Hyatt celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 1.
    They were married in Jeffersonville, Ind., by the Rev. Edwin Carroll.
    They have three children, Edward Allen Hyatt, Sharon Lynn Parker and Teresa Kay Hyatt. They also have one granddaughter, Heather Nicole Hyatt, who is working on her master’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University.

    Mike and Ann Ward of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Lyn Ward of Lexington to Eric Bolander of Lexington, son of Kay Bolander of Garrison, Ky., and the late Raymond Bolander.
    Maternal grandparents of the bride are Martha Thornton, Louisville, and the late Barker Thornton. Paternal grandparents of the bride are Margaret Ward, Harrodsburg, and the late Worley Ward.
    Maternal grandparent of the groom is Helen Vanhoose, Garrison, Ky.

  • Engagement: Crouch-Hanson

    Gill Crouch and Jeanette Powers of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of Casey June Crouch of Lawrenceburg and Bob William Henry Hanson, son of Kim and Benton Hanson of Lawrenceburg.
    Grandparents of the bride are Anna Crouch and the late June Crouch, and Florence and Linual Barnett.
    Grandparents of the groom are Louada and Newton Hanson and the Robert and Marilyn Sand.
    The wedding will take place on Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg with a reception to follow at Eagle Lake Convention Center.

    Derrick Thomas Casey and Sarah Elizabeth Goins are proud to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    Goins is the daughter of Stephanye Goins of Bayfield, Wis.
    She is the granddaughter of the late Lanny Goins and of Susan Goins of Frankfort, and the late Donald Orfield and of Betty Orfield of Georgetown, Ky. The bride is a 2002 graduate of Western Hills High School and is a veteran of United States Army National Guard.
    Casey is the son of Valorie Casey and Earl Casey of Lawrenceburg and the grandson of Harold and Jean Casey of Lawrenceburg.
