My dad was not always “king of the grill.” My brother and I endured many years of waiting patiently for the coals to turn gray, only to receive the charred remains of a once perfect handmade hamburger. We referred to these masterpieces as “hockey pucks.“ Hot dogs, bratwurst, steaks, all suffered the same fate.

Kale is the latest trendy thing to eat. Kale is a “superfood,” cholesterol-lowering champion, cancer-fighting hero, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powerhouse. Okay, so maybe southerners didn’t know all of those things, or the fact that kale is rich in vitamins A, K, C, magnesium and fiber, neither did the rest of country until recently.
