The Fourth of July is almost here and you’ve likely been invited to someone’s house for a cookout.
You’re probably thinking of something to bring, but you don’t want to be that person with the tray of sliced watermelon, or the sheet cake decorated with blueberries and strawberries in a flag pattern. You want to do something different, be creative, wow them.
My dad was not always “king of the grill.” My brother and I endured many years of waiting patiently for the coals to turn gray, only to receive the charred remains of a once perfect handmade hamburger. We referred to these masterpieces as “hockey pucks.“ Hot dogs, bratwurst, steaks, all suffered the same fate.
Apparently several years, and moving to Florida have improved his grill skills. No longer do I hear “Taps” being played in the background when my Dad says dinner is ready.
