    Legion to host oratorical contest

    Want to hear high school students speak about the Constitution?

    You can this Sunday when the American Legion Post 34 in Lawrenceburg hosts the Area B High School Oratorical Scholarship Contest.

    The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the American Legion, located on Broadway across from the high school. Refreshments will be provided by Auxiliary Unit 34.

    Last Tuesday was a special day for Rhetta Mountjoy — so special that by the time it was nearly over, the date will forever more in Anderson County be named for her.

    Family, friends and even Anderson County’s elected leaders helped her celebrate her 100th birthday at her home at 1481 Fox Creek Road.

  • For the Clark family, the walls actually do talk

    While the garage is often not a centerpiece of a home, Janice and Darrell Clark made theirs into real conversation piece, adorning the walls with old family photos and memorabilia.

    Darrell Clark said they had boxes of old photos and antique farm tools and decided they wanted to find a better way to display it, allowing everyone in the family to enjoy it.

  • Shawl ministry allows women to share God’s love

    The ladies of Nimble Fingers, a knitting and crocheting ministry based out of First Christian Church, know firsthand how comforting a prayer shawl can be during a person’s time of need.

    More than 20 women make up the group, which knits and crochets with a mission. Each prayer shawl is blessed by a pastor before they are distributed. The group meets once a month to chat and build up its supply of prayers shawls, allowing anyone who needs it to stop by and grab one for free.
