  • 50 YEARS AGO
    Jan. 12, 1961
    R.C. Colvin, 47, Willisburg, was injured fatally while working at Brown Motors Company at Springfield.
    He was pinned against the rear of a truck when Mrs. Rosa James, who was having her tires checked at the garage, accidentally stepped on the accelerator.
    The accident occurred about noon. Colvin died of abdominal injuries an hour and a half later as he was undergoing surgery at the Lebanon hospital.

  • In his recent New York Times best-selling book “Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream” (Multnomah, 2010) author David Platt challenges the water-downed gospel featured in many American churches in our day. He correctly diagnoses many of us when he says that we are “settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves” (page 7).

  • The Christmas Outreach Ministry is in its eighth year and has served 466 meals throughout the community on Christmas Day, the group announced.
    This ministry is to reach people who are alone or simply in need of a meal. The group likes for people to come in and joins it to help celebrate Jesus’ birthday and to the fellowship of other people, organizers said.
    The group also delivers meals to the people who cannot get out and provides transportation to those who don’t have a way.

  • LouKetta and Michael Woods of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary with a reception on Jan. 30 at the Anderson Senior Citizen Center building from 2 to 5 p.m.

  • Kyle and Tara Goodlett of Elizabethtown announce the birth of their daughter, Catherine Scarlett Goodlett, on Nov. 23, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
